Did You Know: Your World is Changing

The following video shows many statistics about how technology is changing the world. You are a new generation of students who has a greater responsibility in the world than any other generation previous. In addition, you now have more tools than any generation before you. Here is how they're developing.

Respond to this video and consider how technology is changing the world. Also, as students, what do you envision schools could do to help you prepare for these great changes in the twenty-first century?

An eye-opening video that has amazing statistics on the world and what is happening around us. This blog is one example of how students can become better prepared for the new future.

Although I have seen this video a couple of times, I always seem to take away something new. Today the geographic themes that run through this video jumped out at me: population growth, location, cultural universals such as language...
It is true, "Without Geography, you're nowhere."

This video has made me realize that in this century millions of people in the U.S have used the computer by the age 4. Also, by the age 21, U.S citizens have played 10,000 hours of video games, talked on the phone for 10,000 hours and sent or received 250,000 emails or instant messages. This amazed me. Does that mean that by the time us 7th graders are 21 the numbers will be doubled or even tripled?

I am amazed at how technology has changed already in my lifetime. When I was in school, we found answers in hard-cover encyclopedias, and often that information was outdated. When we say, "The world is at our fingertips," it's true. Our job is to help facilitate the love of inquiry and help students use what is available to them.

Mrs. Lang, my middle school experience was very much like the school experience you describe. The internet was still considered "out there" and most people had a misunderstood idea about what the internet even was. By high school, each student in my class had an email account maintained by the school staff. I thought, by the time I started teaching, all students and most staff would have online accounts of some kind and far greater knowledge of internet tools.

The thing I like about this video is the fact that every time I watch it a new figure jumps out at me. There are so many interesting things to take out of the video and apply to your everyday life.

In this video, it made me think of how things will be for my kids when I’m older. And how everything will be so different and how everyone has to get used to everything. Will it be a lot worse? Will things get better? What will it be like?

I did not know that many people used the internet every day and I thought that was a very interesting show.

It’s amazing how much we rely on the computer and electronics. If the Internet crashes and we would all go crazy. No communication, entertainment, news or information.

I think that was a great video it showed me how much people actually use the internet and wat got me going was that the u.s. is way bigger then India and China but they have more people then us so I don't no how their life style is it can't be very good.

This video made me really think about our world. I can't belive that by the age of 4 kids have all ready have used a computer. I also can't belive that the number of text messages are bigger then our population, thats amazing. 21 year olds talk over 10,00 hours on there phones? That much? It's amazing!

This has helped me realize how far we have come as a nation. From our culture changing to our technology changing. I think the world has changed in many ways for good reasons and bad reasons. Only time will tell which one it ends up being.

If myspace where a country it would be the 8th largest in the world. The idea of myspace as a country being that big has changed the way I look at the computer. If there are that many people that have a myspace account then there are at least half of them who have probably have had there page looked at by someone that wants to kill them, someone in jail right now. Myspace has taken up people’s lives. My sister goes on myspace every day to talk to her friends after school. If every one in the world went on myspace every day then you wouldn’t see many people out side. You wouldn’t talk to many people on the phone you would leave a comment on there myspace page. If the world didn’t have myspace, or facebook or any of those other Internet online talking things, the average human would way less because they will have spent more time outside when they where a kid.

In this video it made me realize many interesting facts about the world. It made me think of how this world is changing by the types of technology we are using to this day and the pollution we are causing. The most shocking fact I learned was the population of Myspace users can be living on their own continent with just their own population.

I didn't think that so many people went on myspace.I thought it was an interesting video.

When I watched this video I found out just how much our world is changing. Especially the part about myspace, it’s amazing that there are so many viewers that if myspace were a country it would be the 8th largest in the world. It’s also amazing that they predict in the next 10 years that China will be the number one English speaking country. Another thing that jumped out at me was that the number of text messages a 21 year old has either sent or has received is 250,000. It’s amazing how life will be for my generation and me.

This video amazed me. It made me think about the world and how much it has changed. Next year,I'm sure it will not be the same. It made me compare different people to others. For example, my mothers life to my life. In addition, we drive everywhere now!! My mom had to walk because cars weren't that important back then, either were computers as they are now. This video made me think about how much we have now and also made me think about all of the homeless children and families, how they have nothing.

Our world is changing and this video proves that technology is our life. Think about it all the people that use myspace youtube and google. In 2006 myspace was huge it probably has doubled or trippled in members. technology is getting better and will keep getting better.

This video showed me that our world is changing every day, to become more hi-tech. I can't believe that so many people rely on a computer for their every day life. Something from the video that really surprised me is that if myspace was a country it would be the eighth largest in the world. I also thought it was interesting that most 4-year old's know how to work a computer.

I enjoyed this video because it shows recent information and recent technology. One peice of information that helped me understand the video more was, most 20-year olds have watched more than 20,000 hours of television and spend over 10,000 hours on their phones. Also I think this is a good video to show what the world is becoming and what it might come to be.

I never knew that the Internet is becoming more hi-tech each day and our world is becoming even more hi-tech. A fact that got me the most interested is that by age 4 70% of the 4 year olds have already used the computer. I also learned that if MySpace were a country it would be the 8th largest in the world. I never knew how much the world was changing and you would always want to be updated with it or you will get left be hind.

In this video it showed me that people today are depending on the Internet to meet now people, & chat with friends.

Michael, it seems to me, and based on the comments of others in your class, that there is much more to the video than what your comment suggests. How do you think these changes might affect your own future personally? How might they change your education and the competition you will experience in finding a job in a few years?

In this video, it made me think, what will the world be like 10 years from now, and how different our would will be. Also this film made me wonder if there will even be a world in 10 years.
I think that this video was interesting and will effect many lives in a way that it effected me.

Brianna, you are correct that technology is changing rapidly. What do you think the consequences are if someone is "left behind" in the technology age?

This video left me to think about what our world would be like in just a few years. In 1984 there were 1,000 internet devices, and in 2006 there were 600,000,000! It was a dramatic change in twenty two years. It's amazing to think about all the possibilities we will have in only ten years.
